Topological Quantum Phase Transition from Fermionic Integer Quantum Hall Phase to Bosonic Fractional Quantum Hall Phase through P-Wave Feshbach Resonance

چکیده
We use exact diagonalization to study the quantum phases and phase transitions when a single species of fermionic atoms at Landau level filling factor νf = 1 in a rotating trap interact through a p-wave Feshbach resonance. We show that under weak pairing interaction, the system undergoes a second order quantum phase transition from νf = 1 fermionic integer quantum Hall (FIQH) state at positive detuning, to νb = 1 4 bosonic fractional quantum Hall (BFQH) state at negative detuning. However, when the pairing interaction increases, a new phase between them emerges, corresponding to a fraction of fermionic atoms stay in a coherent superposition of bosonic molecule state and an unbound pair. The phase transition from FIQH phase to the new phase is of second order and that from the new phase to BFQH phase is of first order.

We investigate a model of hard-core bosons with correlated hopping on the honeycomb lattice in an external magnetic field by means of a coupled-wire approach. It has been numerically shown that this model exhibits at half filling the bosonic integer quantum Hall (BIQH) state, which is a symmetry-protected topological phase protected by the U(1) particle conservation [Y.-C. Two-dimensional (p(x)+ip(y)) superfluids or superconductors offer a playground for studying intriguing physics such as quantum teleportation, non-Abelian statistics, and topological quantum computation. Creating such a superfluid in cold fermionic atom optical traps using p-wave Feshbach resonance is turning out to be challenging. Here we propose a method to create a p(x)+ip(y) superfluid direc...

The concept of a topological phase may be traced to the interpretation [[1]] of the integer quantum Hall effect in terms of (what topologists call) a Chern class (or Ktheory class) over the Brillion zone (momentum torus) and to Wilczek’s realization [[2]] that in (2 + 1)-dimensions, anyon statistics was a possibility to be considered on an equal footing with the more familiar fermionic and boso...

The rich variety of phase transitions observed in the strained p-SiGe system are considered and compared. It is shown that the integer quantum Hall effect transitions, the Hall insulating transition and the re-entrant transition into an insulating phase near filling factor 3/2 are all very similar and good examples of quantum critical phase transitions. The B=0 metal insulator transition also s...

We study a bosonic model with correlated hopping on a honeycomb lattice, and show that its ground state is a bosonic integer quantum Hall (BIQH) phase, a prominent example of a symmetry-protected topological (SPT) phase. By using the infinite density matrix renormalization group method, we establish the existence of the BIQH phase by providing clear numerical evidence: (i) a quantized Hall cond...
